Bob Blancato Testifies In Favor of Elder Justice Initiative

The Elder Justice Coalition presented testimony today in favor of the Administration for Community Living's Elder Justice Initiative, which would provide $25 million for Adult Protective Services, data collection and research. Robert Blancato, National Coordinator of the EJC, testified before the House Appropriations Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee on behalf of the Initiative.

In his testimony, Blancato called attention to the silent victims of abuse, saying, "We testify... for those who are not household names. The voices we don't hear are the ones who need a voice that you can listen to today." He also said that the $25 million in funding should be viewed "as a floor to build on, not a ceiling."

Other groups from the EJC who have submitted written testimony include the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA), the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD), and Women for a Secure Retirement (WISER).

Blancato's testimony can be viewed here, starting at approximately 58 minutes into the video. Blancato's full statement can be viewed here.
